Houston-based RIDA Development Corp. received approval from the Port of San Diego and City of Chula Vista to move forward with the financing and construction of a $1.13 billion, 535-acre hotel and conference center on San Diego Bay. The Chula Vista Bayfront project is envisioned to include a 1,600-room resort hotel, and a 275,000-square-foot convention center.
The hotel, on a site west of Marina Parkway between H and G Streets, would be operated by Gaylord Hotels, the convention brand of Marriott Corp. The project includes retail and resort-level amenities such as restaurant/bar/lounge facilities, recreational facilities, a spa, a pool with a lazy river, bike and boat rentals.
Work on the first phase of public infrastructure improvements are anticipated to begin as soon as 2019. That entails preliminary site preparation, building access roads and new public streets, providing utility services and building a new Harbor Park.
